Marble Falls football releases 2026 schedule

The Marble Falls High School football program announced its 2026 schedule now that Mustangs know the district and region they’ll play in for the next two years.

They found that out February 2 when the University Interscholastic League released realignment. Marble Falls, Burnet, Lampasas and Stephenville will continue to play each other for the next two years. But they’ll be in District 12-4A Division I with new members China Spring and Jarrell, who were in Class 4A Division II the last two years.

Unexpected challenges arose for the Mustangs when it became clear they were in a different region and in a six-team district, head coach Keri Timmerman said.

“We’ve been working on non-district schedule for about four months, since about October,” he said. “Once realignment hits, that can go out the window, and that’s what happened with us is that we had a five-game non-district schedule set (that was) pretty solid. I lost one of those games (Jan. 30) then I lost all of the rest of them (Feb. 2).”

He added this happened during the last realignment, too, when the Mustangs were moved to District 4-4A Division I.

“We had games scheduled and all of a sudden, we’re in a five-team district,” the coach said. “We needed a week six opponent and we lost two other games, so we had to pick up Devine and La Vernia, which we were not anticipating long trips and further away.”

As for the 2026 schedule, Timmerman noted the Mustangs kept Lockhart as their season-opening opponent and “gained back Fredericksburg that was on there.”

“And then (Little River) Academy, after they initially were not been able to play week five, we moved them to week two,” he said. “We were pleasantly surprised with the way we were able to end out. We feel like we have a pretty good non-district schedule that’s going to make sense with some good competition and good games.”

After hosting both Lockhart and Academy, Marble Falls will travel to Fredericksburg Sept. 11, welcomes Austin Liberal Arts and Science Academy Sept. 18 and goes to Geronimo Navarro Sept. 25 to end pre-district play.

The Mustangs will go to Jarrell to start district play with the aim of snapping a two-game losing streak to the Cougars Oct. 9, host Burnet Oct. 16, travel to China Spring Oct. 23 and to Lampasas Oct. 30, then host Stephenville Nov. 6 to end the regular season.

“There are several games that they can play both sides of the ball and get you prepped for teams like Stephenville that are going to switch their offense and defense out. So that helps,” the coach said. “Then you also have different schemes in there. Navarro is not a true spread team; they’re a mix. They were a slot-T, wing-T team for years. They’re a pro-style offense. I think that preps you for the Lampasas, the Burnets, the more downhill prostyle scheme. But I don’t know that you ever really look at non-district and say it fits who we’re going to play. I think you look at a non-district schedule and try to get opportunities that kind of determine what your team is like.”

He noted the scrimmages against Gatesville and San Antonio Davenport also will be helpful. Marble Falls and Davenport were in the same district in 2022 and 2023.

“Davenport is a good football team,” Timmerman said. “They’ve had a lot of success recently. We feel like that’s going to be a good warm-up going into Lockhart. Navarro will prep us as we’re going ready to go into our district schedule.”
